Somtel Somalia advanced the practical skills of the Somali graduates to enter into the job market
By: Mohamud Abdi Mohamud (Fat) The Somtel Somalia Technology Center in Mogadishu which have been operational for the past one year and six months has successfully trained a total of 387 graduates from fifteen universities in Somalia advancing their technical professional skills. As sign of encouragement, Somtel Somalia has offered employment to eight graduates that have been observed to have achieved the best performance during the professional skills training programs. The Somali Technical Training Center established on May 25, 2022 provided by Somtel Somalia company is mainly intending to further prepare and train the Somali students, especially those who have graduated from the Faculties of Engineering, IT, Administration and Management, Marketing offered at the various universities in Somalia. The training center is completely equipped with all the necessary materials for the graduates to receive practical training. After four days of its official launching, the Somtel Somalia Technology Training Institute has started operational on Monday, May 30th, 2022 with practical training for the first batch of one hundred graduate students from the Somali International University (SIU) and Jamhuuriya University that are based in Mogadishu. The six- month long training has offered 10 specializations related with engineering and IT which has been facilitated by well experienced engineers provided by the Somtel Somalia company. Furthermore, the graduates from the SIU and Jamhuuriya universities expressed their pleasure and appreciation to be the first beneficiaries receiving practical technology trainings at the Somtel Somalia Institute, and enter the job market with improved professional quality. Adan Haji Yusuf Ibrahim, Somtel Somalia Somalia Deputy Manager and Operation Chief speaking at the startup of the practical training program reiterated the significance of this training program revealing that Somtel Somalia will continue to provide such trainings, and announced that the company has introduced other advanced trainings as well. Drag He further mentioned that as part of corporate social responsibility for our country, that have prompted Somtel Somalia to plan investing $ 1.9 million in this fully equipped technology institute facility that will offer free practical training for the graduate students. He expected the universities will benefit from the technology institute in an open and equitable manner. “It’s Somtel Somalia taking the commitment to invest in facility where the young graduate students could be properly trained and equipped with professional skills to immediately access income generating employments in the job market” Mahad Omar Abdulle, Somtel Somalia Marketing and Public Relation stated. “In order the graduate students get access to employment, they need to be equipped with necessary practical skills in addition to their general knowledge. This will increase their chances of finding jobs.” Dr. Mohamed Yusuf Omar, President of Somali International University (SIU) stated at the launching event. Dr. Mohamed Nasir, one of Mogadishu University Managers appreciated Somtel Somalia for responding to the needs of the Somali graduate students for practical technology skills training.
